Newspaper Blank

As promised, here is a link to the newspaper blank. It is available as a .doc (for Word/Works) an .pdf, and I’ve also given you just the header as an image in case you want to use your own programme.

As an added bonus, I’ve popped a couple of adverts and images that might help you into the folder.

Enjoy!

Copy this URL and paste it into the address bar of your browser to go to a folder with the files for you to download: http://db.tt/ooz1vSdE

PS: It works in most browsers, but is best in Chrome or Safari or the latest version of Internet Explorer.

Machina De Bang Bang

Hi Class… welcome to your blog! As promised, I’ll post bits and pieces here that you may find useful, and that will hopefully help you to get the most you can out of English. You can use the comments at the bottom of a post to ask questions, and it may be a great idea to show this to your parents so they can see what we’re up to!

Anyway, as promised, here’s Episode 1, Part 1 of The Machine Gunners.

If you want to download any films from YouTube, you just need to replace the ‘www.’ with ‘save’.

Enjoy!

School Plan

Almost forgot to post this!

I’ve scanned the map of the school. You can get the full resolution picture by clicking on the thumbnail. If you fancy having a go at making the school in Google Sketchup, this will be a good starting point. No prizes for giving it a go, but you can upload your finished model to Google Earth so that the rest of the world can see your work! (which is pretty cool ;) in anyone’s book!)

Subjects and Calories

Just a wee reminder of the subjects and places you can get food(!) that we were talking about in class today.
Don’t forget, you need to find TEN things you would tell yourself about the school if you could send a message back in time. We started this in class, and I know some of you have already finished, so it shouldn’t take too long! ;)

We’re going to move onto thinking about all the extra-curricular activities you can do as well (rugby, hockey, school shows, etc…) so give some thought to all the extras you get up to.

PS: if you took your map home, you might want to use it to help you design a Google Sketchup model of the school! (Hint, hint!)

School Guide

Welcome to our blog! Even if it will just be for a couple of weeks…

Just to give you a quick update on what we’re planning to do, here’s a quick outline.

The plan is to try and produce a guide to Perth Academy for all the new pupils who will join us in August. Ideally, it will be online (using a wiki) and interactive. To do this, we will need to:

  • Have a list/map of all the departments in the school;
  • Have a description of what you have been doing in all the departments in the school;
  • Let people know about all the after-school activities that learners can take part in;
  • Advice for where to eat, what to wear, how to behave, etc.;
  • The truth versus the myths;
  • Everything else you can think of that we need to include!

In addition, because we’re using a wiki to keep it all together, we can include pictures or video, or just about anything else we think would help new arrivals.

FIRST STEPS

If you get the chance over the weekend, you might want to think about all the subjects you have done this year. Things to consider include:

  • Most enjoyable — and why;
  • Most surprising — and why;
  • The subject you most look forward to — and why;
  • The subject you least look forward to — and why;
  • Best food in the dining hall;
  • Other information you think will help new learners in August.

Can you make some notes so we can make a start straight away? I’ll have some sheets ready for you to collect your thoughts, and then we can get busy with the writing.

Finally!

A screen grab of the Google Sketchup web page.

Click the picture to go to the Download page.

I’ve mentioned Google Sketchup a couple of times. It would be absolutely fantastic if you could think of ways to use it to make 3D models of the school, or a classroom, or just about anything you think of to do with the school! I can’t wait to see what you come up with.

You don’t need to do this, but some of you might have a bit of fun with it. If you think of any other cool tools that we could use to turn this into an even better project, DON’T TELL ME, just DO SOMETHING COOL and show us what you’ve done! Knock our socks off, why don’t you! ;)

You have to finish your 100words for next time. You are writing 100 words on why you felt cheated by the tricks that advertisers use. This is based on the Dove ‘evolution’ advert (above) which is from the Dove website which you can find HERE>>>

REMEMBER: 100 words EXACTLY!

Online Rules

We have started trying to come up with rules that we should use when working online. You were asked to consider the following two questions:

  • How would you suggest people keep safe online?
  • What rules should we adopt for going online?

Reminder!

Just a quick reminder that I would like your jotters covered by Monday (or I’ll provide the paper… and you really won’t like my choice).

Where to find…

If you look to the side, you'll see a selection of categories. If you want to find information about reading or writing or whatever, you can click on these categories to see all the posts that apply to that aspect of the course!

Welcome to Perth Academy! :-)

Welcome to Perth Academy… you'll find it quite a bit different from your Primary School – hopefully in a good way :-) .

I'll be trying to use this site to keep you and your parents informed about what we're doing in the classroom…

If you look to the left, you can see the 'Categories' Menu. This will allow you to find posts on the various things we'll be looking at in class.
